Granny's 60th birthday breakfast. Possibly one of the more unusual places to be 60 in.

Then it was off back to the Dempster junction.

So here we go - after 5 days we have reached the start. Ahead of us lies over 750km of unpaved road to Inuvik. To get there we have to cross two major mountain ranges and two froxen rivers. The first leg is over 350km with no services of any kind.

The scenery is almost immediately absolutely stunning.

This turned out to be the most dangerous stop of the entire trip. I was vaguely aware that I was parked close to the brow of a hill (maybe 100m away) and that the road wasn't that wide, so after we had our pictures we carried on fairly quickly.

Shortly later it became clear that you definately can't just stop anywhere! These trucks are barrelling up and down the road at 110-120km/h and there is absolutely no way they can stop for you. Weighing in at 64 tons (according to the maximum markings on them) they will just go straight over the top of your car!!! We were much more careful to look for pull offs or wider sections of plowed road after this for stops...

There is the occasional road maintainance vehicle - but not many of them on this section.
