As we approached Stewart crossing most of the snow had melted and there was definately a spring feel to the air.

Along much of this stretch there were large piles of wood stacked at the side of the road.

We found out later this is due to the woods being cleared back from the side of the road (to reduce the chance of fire and give you more of a chacne to spot deer). These will be burnt next winter when there is no chance of the forest going up with the bonfire.

Going over the last range of hills before Dawson City the snow was starting to get quite thick.

Here we are approaching the turn for the start of the Dempster. Dawson City is 40km further so we drove past the turn and came back the following day.

The view up the start of the Dempster - since we had to drive over 400km up there the next day we were hoping the weather was going to improve overnight!
