The Arctic circle stop could hardly be located in a more spectacular location.

The road runs pretty much due north for some distance, paralleling the mountain range, until it reaches the spot where it can cross to the other side. This, again, is a wind swept spot where the surface is exposed. This gave us an idea of what it would be like to drive in summer - the answer is nowhere near as smooth - the snow fills in all the bumps quite nicely.

Most of the time though the surface is still covered.

This gives a good impression of how the blowing snow can quickly close the road - we started bottoming out on this quite often in places - but never enough to really impeed progress. Wouldn't take much of this for us to be unable to get through though.

This is where the road enters the mountains - note it climbing towards the pass in the distance.
